i cant help but wonder if there was a johnlock fandom back when Conan Doyle was first publishing

like a secret society of ladies that met in the cloak of night and swapped Victorian slash fics whilst speaking in hushed voices of the sexual tension in the latest story

they probably spent an entire meeting sobbing through mouthfuls of biscuits when Mary Morstan was introduced

I get that it’s annoying to the OPs. 

I get that it’s annoying to the hipsters/those who were interested in the post before it was Sherlocked or Loki’d, etc.

But the thing is, Tumblr is the mecca of all fandoms. We are always going to screw with non-fandom posts. It’s how we work. And while I know that it can be aggravating, and I sincerely apologize to those who are bothered by it, none of us can make an entire culture stop being a culture. 

We’re not going to stop for the simple reason that, even if we policed every post ever made, we still wouldn’t be able to prevent someone from adding a gif of Castiel, or a Homestuck reference. 

So I’m sorry.

But if you see a “ruined” post that liked beforehand, don’t get annoyed with the fandoms. Delete the comments and reblog it the way you want. Your followers will spread your version of the post, and the fans will spread theirs. 

Can’t we just be happy?
